CVGC inspires knowledge, creativity, and community through gardening, civic projects, photography and floral design.
Founded in 1917 as the Amateur Gardeners’ Club, our mission was to promote excellence in garden design, management, and the art of gardening. Renamed the Connecticut Valley Garden Club (CVGC) in 1923, we became a founding member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut in 1929 and joined The Garden Club of America in 1933.
Today, CVGC continues its long tradition of promoting knowledge, interest, and participation in civic projects, conservation, horticulture, photography, and floral design. Since our first community project in 1923 with Hartford’s North Street Settlement, our members have raised funds and volunteered to enhance public spaces across Greater Hartford with major initiatives including the Centennial Heritage Rose Garden at Elizabeth Park ($100,000 raised), and support for Auerfarm, the Harriet Beecher Stowe House, Hill-Stead Museum, Riverfront Recapture, KNOX, Noah Webster House, and Colt Park, among others.
